World Solar Challenge Print E-mail

Another TAFE assignement. The brief was to design press ads, billboard, poster, and direct mail items for next year's (2009) World Solar Challenge.

The designs needed to convey solar power (obviously!), speed, the journey from Darwin to Adelaide, education and science.

I thought about this for a while and eventually came up with the tagline 'Blaze the trail your way'. I think it fits nicely with the Solar Challenge. Trail Blazing is about being the first, setting the benchmark and breaking new ground much like the Solar Challenge. It also ties in the sun and speed. Something the tagline also eludes to is the individuality of each of the cars.

Below are the ads I came up with. They're unified by the blaze of fire burning a hole through the page. The blaze has the loose shape of a car inside it too. This is designed to be an awareness campaign to get interested people to the website where they can find out more information.

The first is a billboard and the other 3 are press ads.

This was my entry into the Adelaide Fringe poster competition this year (2009). Unfortunately it wasn't even picked for the top twenty. Looking at it now, I still love it as a poster but I don't think it's the sort of thing the Fringe are looking for.

The Fringe occurs in March and is often referred to as Mad March because there's so much going on with festivals and events and then the city goes dead for 8 months or so. I might be exaggerating a little there! This year was the return of the Fringe Parade. A precession through the city that marks the beginning of the festival.

So anyway this is the Mad March Hare leading a parade of candy letters into Adelaide. The hare is a well-loved (like the Fringe) teddy, hence why he's missing an eye. He's also holding a 'malls balls' sceptre!

Anti-war Poster Print E-mail

This poster was designed as part of my Graphic Design course at TAFE.

The brief was pretty open...design an anti war poster for Amnesty International. The poster will be a full page ad in Time magazine.

I thought that a way to grab the attention of the Time magazine demographic would be to use a really vulgar image that would at least stop them as they were turning the pages. I also thought the message needed to be strong and very clear.

This was my poster.
